School News: Harbison West's "Jingle Bell Jukebox," Nursery Road Book Fair
A look at what's happening in Lexington-Richland 5 schools.
Students at Harbison West and Nursery Road elementary schools recently participated in some fun school activities .
Students in enrolled in the Escolares Academy at Harbison West Elementary performed “Jingle Bell Jukebox: The Musical.” The play was performed by students in the fourth and fifth grades.
The character of Ruby, played by Lauren Summers, invited the students to her soda shop where the Jingle Bell Jukebox provided holiday cheer. Students performed nine pieces including "The Frosty Handjive” and "Santa Claus is Comin' Medley." All of the music had a 1950s sound. The students prepared for the performance since September, both during school and after school.

When asked about her involvement in the musical, Lauren said, “By being in the musical, I’m not so embarrassed to be on stage. It boosted by confidence.” Dawn Reitz, music teacher, directed the musical for the Academy.
At Nursery Road, the school celebrated Family Reading Night.

This year's theme was "Chill Out and Read!"
Parents, students, and faculty members read books, enjoyed snacks, and shopped at the book fair, according to library media specialist Jessica Felker.
First Community Bank, Plex Indoor Skating Complex and Yoghut were the book fair sponsors.
