Update: Gilbert Man Shot, Killed in Home
The Lexington County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a Gilbert man that was shot and killed in his home early Saturday.

A 72-year-old Gilbert man was shot and killed at his home early Saturday, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
Detectives say Robert Lewis Mitchell, Sr., of Juniper Springs Road was found lying on his back on a floor inside the residence.
Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman ruled Mitchell's death a homicide. He died within minutes after being shot multiple times in the upper torso, Harman said.

The sheriff’s department received a call at about 9 a.m. on Saturday after Mitchell’s son, Robert Lewis Mitchell, Jr., 48, of Lexington, found his father in the home, according to a sheriff’s department release.
An autopsy has been ordered by Lexington County Coroner Harry O. Harman to be performed on Sunday, according to a release.

The sheriff’s department is still investigating the circumstances and motive of the fatal shooting.
