Soles Unite for Annual Walk on Good Friday

This is the third year members of Emrg Church have made the walk on Good Friday in the hope of "encouraging and inspiring others in Christ's love."

About 30 members of Emrg Church in Irmo set out on a 12-mile walk Friday morning carrying a red wooden cross.

This is the third year the group has held the Soles Uniting event where they walk on Good Friday in the hope of "encouraging and inspiring others in Christ's love."

The name Soles Uniting is a play on words, Pastor Jonathan Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said the annual walk was a way to bring all different types of people together to honor Christ and pray for others.

"Today is the day we honor when Christ was crucified," Gonzalez said. "So we get to go through our city, pray for our city, physically pick up a cross and in a small monumental way kinda of walk in His shoes and show our gratitude and appreciation."

Gonzalez said they hope to get more people involved each year.

"We don't care what church they are from. We don't even care if they go to church. If they really want to help and be apart of this, they're more than welcome to come."

Gonzalez and his wife, Marilyn, started Emrg Church at the beginning of March. Services are held on Sundays at 4 p.m. at 220 North Royal Tower Drive.
