Here are some highlights of the upcoming week in Irmo-Seven Oaks. Feel free to add your own events to our calendar.

Tuesday is Election Day and there is no school for students in Lexington-Richland 5.

Starting at 7 a.m., you can vote for Irmo's next mayor and two seats for council. Irmo-Seven Oaks Patch asked candidates several questions to help you make an informed decision about the candidate you want to vote for. View candidate profiles here. Candidates answered questions on several topics including the future site of the Okra Strut Festival and having chickens in one's backyard.

If you don't remember where to vote, there is a list of voting precincts to the right.

If you live in Richland County, the following precincts are open for voting:

  • Ballentine, Ballentine Elementary School, 1040 Bickely Road, Irmo
  • Dutch Fork #2, Dutch Fork Middle School, 1528 Tamah Road, Irmo
  • Friarsgate #1, Friarsgate Park, 1712 Chadford Road, Irmo
  • Friarsgate #2, H.E. Corley Elementary School, 1500 Chadford Road, Irmo
  • Old Friarsgate, Dutch Fork Elementary School, 7900 Broad River Road, Irmo
  • Parkridge, Harbison Fire Station, 131 Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo
  • Riverwalk, The Episcopal Church of Saint Simon and Saint Jude, 1110 Kinley Road, Irmo

If you live in Lexington County, the following precincts are open for voting:

  • Irmo Elementary School, 7401 Gibbes Street, Irmo
  • CrossRoads Middle School, 6949 St. Andrews Road, Columbia
  • St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Road, Columbia

Here is the lineup of candidates, with the letter "I" noting the incumbents.

For mayor:

  • I-Kathy Condom (term ends Nov. 30)
  • Suzanne C. Gooch
  • I-Hardison “Hardy” King (term ends 2013)
  • I-Barry A. Walker Sr. (term ends 2013)

For council seats:

  • I-Harvey Hoots (term ends Nov. 30)
  • Sarah Watson
  • Paul E. Younginer

 

Friday

Veterans Day

Friday is Veterans Day and there are several events happening in the area inclduing the 33rd Annual City of Columbia Veterans Day Parade at 11 a.m. on Sumter Street.

Several schools in District 5 are also celebrating Veterans Day. For example, Dutch Fork Elementary School will parade through the halls.

By the way, federal offices, post offices and several banks are closed on Friday.

 

High school football

Friday also is the day Irmo and Dutch Fork high schools will face off again in the first round of the . The game begins at 7:30 p.m. at Dutch Fork.
