Supporters: Despite Baggage, Gingrich Right Choice

More than 250 people gathered at the Blue Marlin Thursday for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's last campaign stop before Christmas.

After the town hall, guests told Patch they thought Gingrich was the best candidate for president despite his personal history or baggage.

For Adam Herron, of Marlboro County, Gingrich's stance on the security of the country's borders was one of the reasons why he's supporting the GOP candidate. 

"You can't have immigration reform if you don't secure the border," Herron said. "I'm not for sending everyone back straight away because even the American economy is not going to take that."

"Those who are here and are working, get a visa. Those that are here illegally and not working, they return to their country."

Kevin Thomas, chairman of the Fairfield County Republican Party, said while he's neutral on which candidate he would support, he does agree with the use of the Six Sigma business strategy Gingrich promotes.

"I would love to see that piloted in some government agencies and see the results you can get out of it," Thomas said. "These are the out of the box ideas (Gingrich) brings that we need today in the situation that we find ourselves in."
