Trial Date Set for Irmo Man Accused of Killing Wife, Friend

Brett Parker's trial will start at the beginning of May, according to a report in The State.

Brett Parker, an Irmo man accused of killing his wife and friend at his Ascot Estates home last year, will go on trial on two murder charges in May, according to reports.

His trial is set to start the week of May 6, according to a report in The State.  

Parker was charged last year with the . Prosecutors said Parker killed his wife to collect more than $1 million in insurance money to pay off about $600,000 in gambling debt.

When deputies arrived at the scene of the shootings last year, Parker told them Capnerhurst shot his wife and then he shot Capnerhurst in self defense. 

Parker, an accused sports bookie, is also charged with one count of conducting an illegal gambling business.

Deputies have also arrested 12 people they say were clients in Parker's sports betting operation.
