Two Irmo Natives Named to South Carolina College All Star Bowl Watch List

The South Carolina College All Star Bowl will be played on March 23, 2013, at 3 p.m. at North Greenville University.

Yari King, a defensive back for South Carolina State University, and Blair Lowery, a wide receiver at the University of South Carolina, are among 155 players on the South Carolina College All Star Bowl Watch List. 

The game will be played on March 23, 2013, at 3 p.m. at North Greenville University. The game will be aired live to more than 4.5 million viewers throughout South Carolina as well as parts of Georgia and North Carolina. 

The 155 players are senior athletes who either play for South Carolina colleges and universities or are Palmetto State natives playing for out-of-state schools.

“We wanted this game to represent the best that South Carolina has to offer,” said Clayton Banner, vice president of operations for the game. “This is a great group of players and it will be tough to trim the roster down as we get closer to the game.

Players from colleges and natives of high schools south of Interstate 20 will play for a Lowcountry team coached by Willie Jeffries, the legendary retired head coach of South Carolina State University and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Players from the Upstate (or north of the I-20 line) will be coached by Danny Ford, also a member of the College Football Hall of Famer who led Clemson University to the 1981 National Championship.

NFL veterans George Rogers, Patrick Sapp, Brandon Bennett, Woodrow Dantzler and others will serve as mentors to the players as they prepare for the game. Clemson and University of South Carolina broadcasters Will Merritt and Todd Ellis will provide commentary and insight for the game.

The final roster of two 50-player teams will be announced in January.
