Two Men Charged in Burglary of Home Near Chapin

Two men in their 20s were charged with second-degree burglary and criminal conspiracy for allegedly breaking into a home stealing several electronic items, prescription drugs and alcohol.

Sheriff's deputies in both Lexington and Newberry counties have arrested two men in connection to a burglary of a home near Chapin, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday. 

Lexington County Sheriff's deputies arrested Joshual Jaquez Caughman, 20, of Columbia, on charges of second-degree burglary and criminal conspiracy.

Adrian Bowers, Jr., 24, of Little Mountain, was arrested by Newberry County Sheriff’s deputies on Monday for possession of marijuana.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has obtained arrest warrants for Bowers on charges of second-degree burglary and criminal conspiracy related to the burglary. 

Deputies will serve Bowers with the arrest warrants when Bowers is released from the Newberry County Detention Center, according to the department.

Caughman, who is on probation for a previous burglary conviction, was being held on Tuesday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing. 

Deputies said that around 1 p.m. on Monday, Bowers and Caughman broke into a Mountain Road home and stole several electronic items including televisions and video games, prescription medication and alcohol.

Newberry County deputies arrested Bowers about one-half mile from the Mountain Road home on Ethel Drive in Newberry County.

Deputies said Bowers had in his possession an iPod and prescription medication that had been reported stolen from the home.

Lexington County deputies found Caughman hiding under leaves and underbrush in woods off of Nursery Road along with several of the stolen items.
