Two Oak Pointe Students Win Fire Safety Poster Contest
Fifth-grade students Hannah Bewley and Meredith Barbee win this year's Fire Safety Poster Contest sponsored by the Columbia Fire Department.
Two Oak Pointe Elementary School students in Lexington-Richland 5 were among four students in the Midlands named winners in the Columbia Fire Department's Fire Safety Poster Contest.
Hannah Bewley and Meredith Barbee, both students in the fifth grade, were selected as the winners of this year's contest with the theme, “Have 2 Ways Out."
The purpose of the contest is to identify those individuals who have demonstrated an understanding of the issues related to fire safety education and have an ability to visually portray that knowledge, according to a release.

The contest was open to students in fourth and fifth grades in Richland County School Districts 1 and 2, Lexington-Richland School District 5 and local private schools.
The winners participated in the Fire Prevention Parade on Monday and were recognized by the Columbia Fire Department at a luncheon following the parade.
