📰 News we're reading

• More than 700 acres of Charleston Museum property moving forward in conservation (live5news.com) — Hundreds of acres at the Dill Sanctuary on James Island are closer to permanent protection from development, with Charleston leaders backing a conservation easement along the Stono River. The plan would safeguard historic sites, wildlife habitat, and green space while using Urban Greenbelt funds for land management and visitor programming. Residents could see this stretch of riverfront remain largely unchanged for generations.

• Charleston mayor makes a deal with peninsula neighborhood leaders ahead of sales tax priority vote (postandcourier.com) — James Island could see millions in transportation sales tax money for key road upgrades, including new turn lanes on Folly and Maybank and raising parts of Harbor View Road. Charleston City Council approved a citywide project priority list after neighborhood leaders dropped objections, following the mayor’s pledge to cap seawall spending and protect funds for broader infrastructure, bike, and transit improvements.
