Dean Howell Named Athletic Director, Football Coach at White Knoll High
Howell is replacing current Athletic Director Gordon Walters, who is leaving at the end of this school year.

White Knoll High School has a new athletic director and varsity head football coach for the 2013-2014 school year, Lexington District One announced Wednesday.
Anthony Dean Howell, who is currently the head football coach at A.C. Flora High School in Richland One, will replace .
The Lexington One School Board approved the hire of Howell Tuesday at a special-called meeting.

Howell has 17 years of coaching experience. For the last four years, he has led A.C. Flora to a 37-12 overall record, the best winning percentage in the school’s history. His team won 12 games in 2011 and reached the Lower State Championship game for the first time in school history. His team was Region V 3A Champion in 2012 and 2011 and Co-Champion in 2010.
Eight of his players were named All-Region and six named All-Area in 2010, including the Defensive Player of the Year. Nine were named All-Region and eight All-Area in 2011, including Region Player of the Year and Offensive and Defensive All-Area Players of the Year. Three players played in All-Star games, and nine players have gone on to play college football.

Howell was named 3A Lower State Coach of the Year in 2011 and Region V 3A Coach of the Year in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
He began his career in 1995 at Richland Northeast High School in Richland School District Two and spent two years coaching B-team football and junior varsity baseball before becoming a varsity assistant coach in both sports. He also coached middle school basketball at Summit Parkway Middle and Blythewood Middle schools.
Howell joined White Knoll High School as varsity assistant football coach when it opened in 2000 and moved to Brookland-Cayce High School in Lexington School District Two in 2004 as offensive coordinator. In 2008, he joined Chapin High School in District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties as varsity assistant football coach until he became head football coach at A.C. Flora in 2009.
Howell received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from The Citadel and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina.
