Detectives: 9-Year-Old Faked Suspicious Person Report

Lexington County deputies say a suspicious person report filed last week by a 9-year-old was an attempt to garner attention.

The 9-year-old girl made up a story about a suspicious person sitting in a car in the driveway of her home near South Congaree when she got off the school bus last Thursday, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. 

Detectives say the report was "a misguided attempt to get attention."

Deputies determined Tuesday that the report was false after the girl's mother told them that the girl would not meet with a sketch artist.

The girl told detectives that there was not a car parked in her driveway and that no one chase her when she arrived home.
