Lexington High Student Receives Presidential Scholar Award

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selected Lexington High student Carsten Bryant as a 2013 United States Presidential Scholar.

Bryant was chosen from among nearly 3,300 candidates who qualified for the 2013 award determined by outstanding performance on the College Board SAT and ACT exams. As the only male winner in South Carolina, he will represent the state at the 2013 Presidential Program Scholars Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on June 16. As an honoree, he will receive a Presidential Scholar Medallion.

The program recognizes 141 high school seniors for their accomplishments in academics or the arts. Students are selected annually based on their academic success, artistic excellence, school evaluations, as well as their community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals.

The U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, announced the 49th class of scholars noting that they “demonstrate the accomplishments that can be made when students challenge themselves, set the highest standards and commit themselves to excellence.”
