Police Stop Leesville Man for Shoplifting, Find Drugs

A Leesville man was arrested Friday after police say they found drugs in his car when they stopped him for shoplifting from the Lexington Walmart.

A Leesville man is in jail after police say they stopped him Friday for shoplifting from the Lexington Walmart and found meth and marijuana in his car.

Brian Jeffrey Clark, 30, is charged with shoplifting, possession of marijuana, possession of meth, possession of drug paraphenalia and an alcohol violation.   

Lexington Police responded to a call around 5:30 p.m. about a shoplifter who placed items in a Walmart bag and left through the garden center without paying, according to an incident report. A loss prevention officer at the store provided police with a description and a tag number from the man's vehicle.

An officer stopped a black car matching the tag number just off Old Cherokee Road, according to the report. The officer noticed that the driver, Clark, was shaking and sweating. 

Officers found a Walmart bag containing a Sony Speaker dock, six painter's pens, clothing and an iPod case in Clark's car, according to the report. The total value of the items was about $155.

Officers also found two open Vodka bottles with only a little alcohol remaining, a half-full flask, a cigar box containing a substance that tested positive for meth, a pipe that had the odor of burnt marijuana and other drug paraphenalia, according to the report. 

Clark was arrested and taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he is being held on bail totaling $9,080.
