Sheriff: Man Stole Gun Safe from Lexington Home
The 18-year-old man from Aiken is in jail after deputies arrested him Thursday.

An 18-year-old Aiken man is in jail after deputies say he stole a gun safe Thursday from a home on Cheryse Drive near Lexington.Â
David Lougene Williams Jr. of 27 Kenya Drive in Aiken is charged with first-degree burglary, grand larceny and safecracking, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.Â
Between 12 and 12:50 p.m., Williams broke into the house on Cheryse Drive and forcibly removed a gun safe that was secured to a closet wall in the bedroom, according to arrest warrants.Â

The victim stored two 12-gauge shotguns, several handguns, an iPhone 4, three other cell phones, cash and coins in the safe, according to the sheriff's department.
While armed with the 12-gauge shotgun that he stole from the home, Williams used a hand cart to transport the gun safe away from the home, according to arrest warrants.

A citizen who lived at a home on the nearby Calks Ferry Road saw Williams tresspassing on his property, detained him and called the sheriff's department.
Deputies arrived at the Calks Ferry Road home around 12:58 p.m., detained Williams and later arrested him, according to the sheriff's department.
They recovered the stolen gun safe, the hand cart and a backpack that contained tools in the woods near the Calks Ferry Road home, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies later determined that Williams had tried to forcibly open the gun safe.
Williams is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.Â
