Sheriff: Man Who Attacked Wife with Box Cutter Arrested in West Virginia

James Christopher Shawver was charged with attempted murder and kidnapping.

A Gaston man who was on the run for more than a week after deputies say he attacked his wife with a box cutter was arrested Friday in West Virginia. 

James Christopher Shawver, 35, is charged with attempted murder and kidnapping.

U.S. Marshals arrested him around 1:45 p.m. in the woods near a small hunting cabin close to Pytona, West Virginia, according to a press release from the sheriff's department. Shawver's parents live in West Virginia.

Shawver was on the run after , according to the sheriff's department. The attack happened on April 18 at the couple's home in Gaston. 

Shawver was being held Saturday at the West Virginia Southwestern
Regional Jail in Holden, West Virginia awaiting extradition to Lexington County, according to the sheriff's department. Shawver invoked his right for an extradition hearing to be held before he is returned to Lexington County.
