Big Traffic Change on JDB Tonight
Road crews shifting traffic to just one side of highway over the next four evenings.

Charleston County Government plans a nighttime traffic shift on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard this week in the northbound lanes. It could mean big delays if you venture out at night.
The traffic shift will be between Houston Northcutt Boulevard and Bowman Road, and will begin with the section of roadway between Houston Northcutt Blvd and Shellmore Blvd the night of Thursday, October 27.
The shift will continue to be implemented north of Shellmore Blvd the night of Sunday October 30, and Monday October 31, 2011. If the weather is poor any day during Oct. 27 to Oct. 31, the work will continue until the shift is completed.

This shift is necessary in order to allow crews to install underground drainage and curb and gutter along the outside of Johnnie Dodds Boulevard. The road construction is a part of the Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvements Project in Mount Pleasant.
The process of moving the traffic lanes will occur at night. Drivers choosing to use Johnnie Dodds Boulevard are encouraged to drive with caution. Once the northbound shift process is completed, traffic will continue to flow through the lanes with traffic control devices placed between the traffic lanes and construction zone.

The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2013, is to improve the traffic flow in and out of Mount Pleasant, especially before and after school and work hours. The project is funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax and managed by Charleston County Government, in close coordination with the Town of Mount Pleasant and the S.C. Department of Transportation.
