Teen Charged With DUI, Homicide Released From Jail

Samuel McCauley's bond was lowered Wednesday to $50,000 earlier in the day Wednesday.

A few hours after his bond was lowered by Charleston County Magistrate James B. Gosnell, Samuel McCauley posted and was released from jail Wednesday.

McCauley, who is in connection with the July 24 death of 72-year-old Eleanor Caperton of Ladson, while driving the wrong way on I-26.

The bond was reduced earlier Wednesday from $107,000 to $50,000 and comes with 24-hour house arrest for McCauley of Mount Pleasant and a requirement to receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation counseling.

The terms of the house arrest order allow him to leave home only for school, work, attorney meetings and court dates. As of about 3 p.m. Wednesday McCauley's bond had not been posted according to the Magistrate Court.

No further court dates have been scheduled yet for McCauley, according to the Charleston County Clerk of Court's office.
