Patriots Point kicks off anniversary celebration (postandcourier.com) — Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant will kick off its 50th anniversary on January 3 with $2 Throwback Day admission and a special ribbon cutting led by Mayor Will Haynie. Visitors can enjoy early access to a new Charting 50 Years exhibit, photo ops, and a ceremonial cake cutting with local families, veterans, and community partners.

2. Mayor Haynie sues ex-councilmember for slander & recklessness over false pedophile claims (abcnews4.com) — Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie has filed a civil defamation lawsuit against former town councilmember Kevin Cunnane, accusing him of repeatedly making knowingly false, damaging claims. The suit, rooted in long-running local political tensions, seeks a jury trial, monetary damages, a permanent injunction, and a written apology and retraction controlled by Haynie.
   

3. ‘Southern Hospitality' star arrested after traffic stop, active warrant (postandcourier.com) — A Mount Pleasant resident and reality TV personality, Grace Lilly, was arrested in Charleston after a license plate reader flagged her car for an active harassment warrant. Police say a subsequent traffic stop and search found unidentified pills in a container marked “Happy Pills,” which Lilly reportedly described as prescriptions but could not immediately document.
   

4. 'Big surge' in flu cases hits South Carolina, Charleston with new strain (postandcourier.com) — Mount Pleasant residents are seeing a sharp rise in flu-related ER visits at Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital as a new influenza A strain spreads across South Carolina. MUSC facilities in Charleston and around the state are also reporting big jumps in flu-like illness. Doctors say this year’s vaccine isn’t a perfect match but still helps prevent hospitalizations.
   

5. Governor McMaster declares January 2026 as South Carolina Interfaith Harmony Month (abcnews4.com) — An upcoming Sacred Space tour at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Mount Pleasant is part of a statewide Interfaith Harmony Month just proclaimed for January 2026 by Governor Henry McMaster. Interfaith Partners of South Carolina will host public events across the state, inviting residents to explore unfamiliar faith traditions and build understanding among diverse religious communities.
