Carnival Won't Make Bermuda Trips

Charleston-based Fantasy was traveling regularly to the British territory, now will focus on Bahamas and Caribbean sailings.

Carnival Cruise Lines will only make one trip to Bermuda in 2012, causing a panic in the British island territory that had become accustomed to regular arrivals, according to the Bermuda Sun.

Charleston-based Carnival Fantasy made some of the 15 Carnival Cruise Line trips to the island in 2011, and island officials were expecting the same number, if not more, from the Miami-based cruise line, but Carnival insists this isn't a cancellation.

“Although quite some time ago we had requested berths for several Bermuda calls in 2012, we ultimately only scheduled one voyage. Therefore we did not cancel any cruises that were actually scheduled and open for sale," a Carnival spokesperson told the newspaper.

Carnival's website is selling 2012 Fantasy trips to Freeport, Grand Turk and Nassau, Bahamas, and some of those voyages also stop in Key West, Fla. It appears the cruise line added a 7-day cruise for 2012, but Fantasy mostly sails 5 and 6-day itineraries.

Today, Carnival Fantasy is at sea and will return to Charleston on November 2.
