Crossing Guards Planned for Park West

In wake of accident at crosswalk, school system and town are in talks for crossing guards.

School and town leaders were planning some sort of safety measure for the busy crosswalks near Cario Middle School when a student was seriously injured during a Friday crash.

“Cario was working with the school system and the town to find a way to place crossing guards there,” said Jason Sakron, a school system spokesman. “That request had already been made, and they had been trying to coordinate it for some time.”

Police say an 11-year-old girl was in the crosswalk when a motorist, whom they allege was speeding, struck the girl at the end of the school day on Park West Boulevard near the Madison apartments.

“At some point, we’ll get crossing guards there permanently,” he said. “It’s clearly a very busy area, and the conversations are ongoing.”

Police have charged Christopher A. Dudley, 47, with reckless driving relating the crash.
