A Mount Pleasant native, who made headlines as a tennis star at Wofford College, has died, according to a school news release.
Randall George Heffron, Jr., 20, died early Saturday after choking, Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports on its website. He was found unconcious inside a dormitory bathroom, according to the newspaper.
“The entire Wofford College family is saddened by the loss of Randall,” said director of athletics Richard Johnson in a school news release. “Our thoughts, prayers and concerns are with his mother, brother, family, and the Wofford men's tennis team led by Coach Rod Ray.”

Heffron, the son the late Dr. Randall Heffron, a dentist, and Robin Heffron, was a standout tennis champ at Bishop England High School, according to his Wofford bio. His father had a stellar tennis record at the Citadel in the 1960s and his younger brother, Walker, is on the men's tennis team at Wofford.
Heffron Jr. led his high school team to four consecutive region championship titles from 2007-2010 and two second place finishes in the South Carolina state championships.

As a freshman at Wofford, Heffron played in two doubles matches for the Terriers and posted a 1-1 record. He was majoring in theology and biology at the private Spartanburg college.
