The Mount Pleasant restaurant bearing the name of famed oceanographer Guy Harvey abruptly closed last week just days before the busy Fourth of July weekend.
The reason for Guy Harvey’s Island Grill’s abrupt closure wasn’t clear, said Kristi Tolley, spokeswoman for Towne Centre shopping center, where the restaurant opened just a year ago.
Calls to Guy Harvey’s corporate office seeking comment were not returned Tuesday, and the person answering the phone at the at restaurant operator Flying Marlin LLC in Marco Island, Fla., said the party authorized to speak to the media was not available.

“We’re excited about new and upcoming tenants that should be announced very soon,” Tolley said.
Over the weekend, a steady stream of customers pulled into the sprawling restaurant’s parking lot only to find it closed. There were no signs in the windows to note the closure.
Guy Harvey's Island Grill opened in Mount Pleasant last summer. The restaurant’s menu featured seafood while its gift shop was stocked with shirts and other collectibles that featured the drawings of famed oceanographer Guy Harvey.
Tolley said the restaurant and Harvey’s business enterprises are completely separate.
