Hotel Talks Expansion Plans

Charleston Harbor Resort unveils 90-room expansion plans.

The resort currently operates a 126-room waterfront hotel and has long had plans to expand, according to Butch Hills, Patriots Point spokesman. On Wednesday, the hotel’s architect presented the expansion plans to Patriots Point’s board.

“They still have to clear some hurdles with the town,” Hills said. “The expansion has always been a part of their lease with Patriots Point.”

Because it was always part of the plan, going ahead with expansion doesn’t require approval from the board, Hills said. Wednesday’s meeting was simply for information purposes.

The building will be roughly the same height as the current hotel, Hills said. The plan calls for waterfront views from hotel rooms as well as rooftop and poolside bars, Hills said. Construction could start in early 2012.
