Lieutenant Governor Replacements Floated

Charleston Senator is next in line for the job.

The State newspaper reports a flurry of conversation about who will replace beleaguered Lt. Gov. Ken Ard. President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell, R-Charleston, would assume the part-time job on an interim basis, the newspaper reports.

Two lawmakers prominently mentioned in private conversations among legislators – Republicans and Democrats alike – are two of the Senate’s more senior GOP members: Sen. John Courson, R-Richland, and Sen. Larry Martin, R-Pickens, several lawmakers said Tuesday.

UPDATE (Noon): The Post and Courier reports that Sen. McConnell views replacement talks as premature.

“I have not made up my mind on anything other than to discharge the duties of my job as president pro tem of the Senate,” McConnell said
