MinuteClinic Opens Mount Pleasant Location

New store is part of national effort to open 100 new clinics in 2011.

MinuteClinic has opened its second Charleston-area walk-in medical clinic inside the store in Mount Pleasant at 1676 North Highway 17.

Earlier this month, MinuteClinic opened the first retail medical clinic in the region at the CVS/pharmacy store at 59 George St. in Charleston. The clinic, owned by CVS Caremark, is the largest provider of retail-based medical clinics in the United States.

Mount Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails joined CVS Caremark executives and MinuteClinic nurse practitioners at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday.

It's MinuteClinic's 18th location in South Carolina, joining clinics inside select CVS/pharmacy stores in the Columbia and Greenville-Spartanburg areas, according to a company news release.

As part of its plans to open 100 new clinics in the U.S. in 2011, MinuteClinic anticipates opening clinics in the Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach metro areas later this fall.

"Since opening our first store-based clinic in South Carolina in 2008, we have helped to expand access to high-quality, convenient and affordable care to thousands of residents who have visited us at convenient CVS/pharmacy locations near where they live and work," said Andrew Sussman, M.D., president, MinuteClinic and senior vice president/associate chief medical officer, CVS Caremark Corporation.

No appointments are required at MinuteClinic and most health insurance is accepted. For patients paying cash or credit, treatment prices are posted at each medical center and on www.minuteclinic.com. The cost for most treatment starts at $79.

MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics in South Carolina operate from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
