More Vehicles Struck by Stray Bullets

Police reports: Four people have reported gunfire along Rifle Range Road.

Police have received an additional report of bullets striking a vehicle near the intersection of Rifle Range Road and Six Mile Road.

A motorist on Oct. 28 told police that his vehicle had been damaged by small-caliber gunfire, according to reports.

Police said the damage could have been a bullet, but it also could have been caused by a rock, according to the report.

Another man in the area said he believed his window had been shattered by a gunshot, but police wrote that the damage seemed more consistent with a rock.

These reports follow similar incidents reported earlier in October.

The first report came Oct. 14 when a restaurant owner waved down police to report that his customers noticed someone was driving around in a green Ford Explorer, firing a gun in the area, reports indicate.

Nearby, a Columbia, S.C., man told the responding officer that stray bullets had damaged his windshield, the report states. A nearby resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told the officer that he thought several young men were firing a .22-cal handgun at vehicles.

The next day, an Isle of Palms man came to the police department to report that his vehicle had also been hit by gunfire along Rifle Range Road. Police observed a half-inch hole in the rear of the vehicle that could have been caused by a small-caliber gun, the report states.

Pricey jewelry lifted from Dunes West home

A Dunes West woman told police that nearly $17,000 worth of designer jewelry and other items were lifted from her home while she was recovering from surgery.

The woman said that while she was on bed rest she hired several contractors to make repairs and perform other services at her home. Weeks later when she was fully recovered she noticed the thefts.

The 47-year-old victim said her Tiffany engagement ring, diamond necklace as well as other non-valuable items belonging to her children were stolen.

The victim could only recall a few of the companies and individuals who had worked in her home during her recovery. Police are investigating.

Woman cited for throwing underaged party

A 49-year-old Mount Pleasant woman has been cited for a booze-soaked Halloween party that featured stumbling teens in various Halloween costumes, according to reports.

Cherie Blackburn of Coinbow Circle was home during the party, according to the reports. Kids were reportedly all over the yard and back deck of the home drinking beer.

Many attempted to flee when police arrived, but officers cited at least two teens with underage drinking when they wouldn't comply with police commands to stand still for officers, the report states.

Both Blackburn and the teens were cited for the offenses and released.

Grocery store employee charged with embezzlement

A Mount Pleasant woman has been arrested for embezzlement after allegedly skimming cash from the Highway 41 Harris Teeter.

Megan Ackerman, 23, told police that she was struggling with legal costs related to a child custody fight and that her mother had recently died and she needed money for funeral expenses.

So after only six weeks on the job, Ackerman started skimming money from cash registers at the grocery store, police said in an incident report.

In all, police say Ackerman took $1,400 from the store. Ackerman, according to the report, admitted to the thefts and said she had been lifting several hundred dollars at a time from cash drawers.

Ackerman was charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent. She was booked into jail and released, according to court records.
