National Night Out Set for Tuesday

Anti-crime event involves 35 million people cross the country

Mount Pleasant Police and Target are asking residents to spend Tuesday on the streets, taking a stand against crime.

Across the country, 37 million other Americans will participate in National Night Out, the 28th year for the nationwide event. The Mount Pleasant National Night out begins at 4:30 p.m. at Target on Long Grove Drive. It’s a free event.

“Last year, the National Night Out Campaign united over 37 million people from all 50 states in a series of activities designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for anti-crime programs, and strengthen neighborhood spirit,” said Don Calabrese, crime prevention officer. National Night Out “sends a clear message to criminals: our neighborhood are organized and fighting back.”

This year, MPPD and Target have a thorough line-up of activities for adults and children that includes the following:

• Mount Pleasant Fire Department’s Smoke House
• Jump castle
• Child ID kits provided by New York life
