New Gym Has Bold Claim

How many calories it says you can burn in an hour.

By most counts, an ultra-filling Thanksgiving dinner will hit your waistline at around 2,000 or 3,000 calories.

Burning that off means a lot of treadmill time, but a new gym set to open in Mount Pleasant November 30, promises to help you shed those calories in just a few visits.

BLAST900 offers participants the ability to burn an average of 900 calories per one-hour session. The Atlanta-based fitness studio is a big success in other markets because of its unique fitness concept.

“Losing weight is icing on the cake,” said founder Missi Wolf. “What we do is focus on a whole mentality change to direct people on how to lead healthy lifestyles.”

And to prove how different BLAST900 is from other gym, in its first week of operation in the Charleston area, anyone can try it out for free.

From November 30 to December 4, the fitness center will offer classes free of charge. BLAST is located at 1440 Ben Sawyer Boulevard.

Unlike other gyms, BLAST900 gives one-on-one guidance on fitness and nutrition. It's not just a big room full of machines.

The BLAST900 workout stresses and strengthens participants' bodies through a proprietary combination of cardiovascular conditioning on treadmills, with weight training, core stability and stretching activities, according to news release.

“We selected Charleston carefully as we identified people in the area who are interested in not just a complete workout, but a holistic approach to health and fitness,” Wolf said. “We are excited to open our doors ... and to introduce Charleston to the concept that is changing lives in Atlanta.”
