Next Door Restaurant Opens

Red Drum founders expand with new concept. Try the menu Wednesday while benefiting breast cancer charity.

There’s a new place for dinner in Mount Pleasant, and as the name suggests, it’s not too far from a restaurant many residents have already come to love.

Next Door, located at 819 Coleman Boulevard, is the brainchild of the team behind , the already popular upscale Coleman Boulevard dining spot.

Next Door marries the inventive minds, culinary experiences and technical know-how of Executive Chef Ben Berryhill, Chef de Cuisine Kyle Christy and Sous Chef Nathan Hood.

The restaurant features a seasonal menu that focuses on local products and seafood. The offerings change with the seasons, so the menu is constantly in flux.

“We’re making the kind of food we want to eat,” Berryhill said. “We’re doing more than just using local ingredients in preconceived dishes. We’re being inspired by the area’s incredible network of local farmers, fishermen and purveyors and what they bring to us daily in order to create something delicious and authentic.”

The menu includes handcrafted pasta, artisanal pizza, charcuterie, crudo and the “smothered burger,” a riff on a classic French-inspired open-faced burger.

The offerings are made by hand, and Next Door offers seasonal deserts by renowned Pastry Chef Lauren Mitterer of WildFlour Bakery.

Much emphasis is placed on the cocktail program at Next Door, where veteran bartender Andy Bates is crafting 12 specialty “long drinks” that have been extremely well-received. There is craft beer on tap and an affordable, handpicked wine list with most bottles between $30 and $40.

To compliment the restaurant’s laid-back, neighborhood atmosphere, there are a variety of options for indoor and outdoor dining.

Next Door is open for dinner, Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Next Door will feature Happy Hour food and drinks Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Late Night Pizza each night after 10 p.m. and Food and Beverage Industry “Get a Break” Mondays.

Additionally, the restaurant will soon be opened for Bistro Lunch. For more information, call 843-881-8817 or visit Next Door on Facebook.
