Piggly Wiggly Makes Big Donation to Meals on Wheels
Grocery chain donates $5,000 in gift cards.

Piggly Wiggly Carolina Company recently awarded $5,000 in gift cards to East Cooper Meals on Wheels in support of the organization’s mission to deliver daily nutrition, and leaders hope that customers will also lend a helping hand to the local nonprofit this holiday season.
Both the company and the Seaside Farms store owner/operator, Bill Trull, have a long legacy of philanthropy that creates opportunities to engage customers and leverage contributions from both organizations.
From November 21 through December 23, customers can match Piggly Wiggly’s contribution at the Seaside Farms store by purchasing a gift card at the register for East Cooper Meals on Wheels. The gift cards will be used to purchase food resources, helping the organization maintain its commitment to delivering meals at no charge to recipients and without operating a waiting list.

“This is about working together to care for the homebound seniors in our community, who depend on East Cooper Meals on Wheels for their daily nutrition,” said Bill Trull, Owner/Operator of the Piggly Wiggly at Seaside Farms and chairman of the board of directors at East Cooper Meals on Wheels. “We’re asking our customers to join in and help us have an even bigger impact on this vital community organization.”
East Cooper Meals on Wheels continues to see a growing need for its programs, increasing its meal delivery by 79% in the past five years. In the month of October alone, the organization served 22 new recipients. With a staff of only eight, East Cooper Meals on Wheels depends on 295 volunteers contributing over 29,000 hours of service annually to keep the meals moving.

In addition to the gift card donation, Piggly Wiggly at Seaside Farms has also partnered with Southern Wine and Spirits to support Meals on Wheels. For every 750 mL bottle of Beringer Founder’s Estate Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay purchased through December 31, $1 will be donated to East Cooper Meals on Wheels. It’s an easy way to give back while preparing for holiday entertaining.
“We are so grateful to Piggly Wiggly,” said Patricia Walker, President/CEO of East Cooper Meals on Wheels. “They are a significant contributor to our organization and continue to help us connect with the community in unique ways.”
