Plans Set for Town Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting, Fireworks

Chip and Buck Limehouse are grand marshals.

Chip and Buck Limehouse, the father-son South Carolina political duo, will serve as grand marshals for the December 11 Mount Pleasant Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting ceremony.

Buck Limehouse, former secretary of the South Carolina Department of Transportation, and State Rep. “Chip” Limehouse, R-Charleston, will lead the annual events, according to Mayor Billy Swails.

“We are honored to welcome two great public servants to our parade,” Swails said. “Mount Pleasant road construction would not be where it is today without Buck and Chip Limehouse. The Town of Mount Pleasant is truly indebted to Buck and Chip."

A traditional fireworks display and tree lighting ceremony will kick off the parade at 5:30 p.m. on Moultrie Middle School grounds. The main stage will be located in front of the school and a panel of judges will select winning floats.

"Look for a great show from local businesses and civic organizations," said Nicole Harvey, town event planner. “Following holiday etiquette and custom, Santa will ride on the fire truck at the end of the procession.”

The parade will begin at the intersection of Coleman Boulevard and Pelzer Drive. It will continue past Shem Creek and conclude at the Sea Island Shopping Center at approximately 7:30 pm.

As in previous years, residents are encouraged to leave their pets at home for safety reasons. Lost children should go to the Lost Child tent at Regions Bank in the Sea Island Shopping Center.
