Police Called for Couch Dispute

Also in police reports: Man prescribes pet meds to wife; Huge theft of pricey silverware.

No one likes a couch hog, but in South Carolina, refusing to share the couch is not a crime.

So this week, when a woman called Mount Pleasant police to report her husband for spending too much time on the couch, the officer couldn’t do much to help her.

It happened Tuesday evening, and the woman said it was past her husband’s bedtime, and she was ready to sprawl on the couch and watch her evening television shows. She wanted the officer to make her husband move.

The officer pointed out that the couple had a recliner with a clear view of the TV, and he suggested that the wife just sit there.

That’s about the time when the husband said he would just go to bed to end the argument. No charges were filed, and the officer left the scene. We’re assuming the wife got her couch-time after all.

Pet medication given to wife

A local physician had been treating his wife for pneumonia, but she became enraged when he told her that one of the medications he had administered was originally written for one of their pets.

He said it could be used on both humans and animals, but that didn’t stop the wife from slapping the pills from the husband’s hands.

Previously, the man told police, he had promised his wife that if she struck him in a fight again, that he would hit her back.

Making good on that promise, the husband slapped the woman in the head from behind, and that blow caused her to fall to the ground.

That’s when the police got involved. Both parties agreed not to bring charges, and the husband agreed to get a hotel room for the night.

Huge stash of silver swiped

A Mount Pleasant woman reported between $60,000 and $80,000 in sterling silver flatware was recently stolen from her home.

She noticed the theft as she began preparing for a dinner party. She normally keeps the silverware in a bedroom closet, but as she began laying out the pricey flatware, she noticed several empty boxes.

Police took the empty boxes and said they would comb local convenience stores for any attempts to sell the silver.
