Port Funds in Obama Budget

President's budget presented today contains money for Charleston port deepening.

The budget presented today by President Obama contains $3.5 million in funds for deepening of the Charleston Harbor, the Post and Courier reports.

The South Carolina Ports Authority plans an afternoon press conference to address the allocation. The funds adds to $2.5 million allocated earlier this year, the newspaper reports.

Obama's budget also calls for steep tax increases on the wealthiest Americans, which sets the stage for an election-year political battle with Republicans, according to the Huffington Post.
