School Custodian Faces Sex-Crime Charge
Man who worked in North Charleston school faces assault charges for off-campus incident.
A North Charleston man who worked in the county public school system has been arrested and charged with allegedly sexually assaulted a young girl he was babysitting.
Kirby Wright, 46, who was arrested Tuesday by Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies, is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor between the age of 11 and 14, according to court records.
The criminal charges stem from a 2010 incident, according to WCSC-TV, in which Wright allegedly pushed a young girl to his bed and then forced a sexual encounter.

The incidents didn’t occur at a public school, but Wright has worked in the school system for several years.
"Kirby Wright was formerly a day porter employed by the Charleston County School District,” wrote Jason Sakran, the school district spokesman.

When custodial services were contracted out in 2010, Wright transitioned to employment with GCA Services Group, the new contractor, Sakran wrote. Wright is no longer working in CCSD schools. He was last assigned to Garrett Academy of Technology in North Charleston.
“There is no indication that Mr. Wright committed any crime on campus or in connection with his job as day porter,” Sakran wrote.
Wright, reportedly a father himself, was denied bond today. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 10.
