Scott to Speak Friday at Patriots Point

Congressman opens Black History Month program.

U.S. Rep. Tim Scott (R-SC) will offer opening remarks aboard the on Friday as the naval and maritime museum opens its Black History Month programming.

Scott is speking on Patriots Point's Black History Month event "Ordinary Citizens Doing Extraordinary Things Through the Eyes of Our Hometown Heroes — The Challenges and Changing Role of Blacks Within the Military from WWII to the Present."

Scott, elected to Congress in 2010, was the first black Republican elected to Congress from South Carolina since 1901. He previously was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and was a long-time member of the Charleston County Council.
