Residents will soon get a chance to see what all the fuss is about.
The Town of Mount Pleasant on Tuesday will officially open Shem Creek Park, the pricey 43-acre park that spans some of the Lowcountry's most picturesque marshland.
The opening starts with a 9:30 a.m. ribbon cutting, will feature exhibits from the Department of Natural Resources and the South Carolina Aquarium. The ceremony also will include a showcase a historical pictures from the area.

The $8 million investment is said to be Mount Pleasant's "crown jewel." The town paid just under $2 million to construct a restroom facility, parking lot, dock space and a network of boardwalks that span the marshland, the creek and connects pedestrians to perviously inaccessible land.
The town purchased the $6 million tract of land in 2008.
