Sofa Super Store Closing

Beset by the poor economy, furniture chain will close two remaining locations.

After 20 years of business, Sofa Super Store is closing its remaining two stores in the Charleston area.

Foundering in the tight economy, nearly four years after a fire killed firefighters at its West Ashley location, the chain said it could no longer make a go of it, according to a Post and Courier story.

A 2007 fire at the chain's West Ashley location killed nine Charleston firefighters. That store reopened and then closed earlier this year. The chain will close both its Mount Pleasant and North Charleston locations.
