Use Paper Bags for Lawn Clippings

New policy goes in place today.

The Town of Mount Pleasant Public Services Department is reminding residents of its new yard waste disposal protocol. Effective today, the Town of Mount Pleasant will no longer accept yard waste bagged in plastic bags in order to comply with Charleston County’s new landfill procedures.

Leave, grass, clippings, pine straw, and other vegetative debris should be bagged in biodegradable paper bags for pick up, according to a town news release. Tree limbs, palm fronds, and larger debris can remain loose and will be collected as is presently done.

Unlike plastic, paper bags will decompose with yard waste and help produce high-quality compost. When used in our yards and gardens, compost enriches soil and promotes plant health and water quality.
