Wando High School graduate Trent Williams, a non-scholarship wrestler for Spartanburg Methodist College, reached All-American status Friday by making the final eight at the NJCAA national championships in Rochester, Minn.
Williams is a freshman walk-on who never even made the state finals in high school, according to a blog on GoUpstate.
On Saturday, Williams has a chance to win a junior college national championship.

Seeded No. 19 in the 165-pound weight class, according to the NJCAA website, Williams beat No. 12 W.V. Meyer of North Idaho College, 16-3; No. 4 seed Darnell Thomas of Lincoln College, 10-6; and lost to No. 11 Bryce Lewis of Colby Community College in the round of eight but moves onto to the finals.
