• Coroner: 87-year-old killed in Newberry County crash (wistv.com) — An 87-year-old Newberry resident, James Pratt Schumbert, died in a crash at C.R. Koon Highway/U.S. 76 and Shrine Club Road in Newberry County last weekend. Authorities say his Cadillac was struck while crossing near Boyds Crossing Road, causing the vehicle to hit multiple objects; Schumbert died at the scene and both drivers were hospitalized as the investigation continues.
   

• Newberry High Football Senior to play in Shrine Bowl (wach.com) — A standout Newberry High School senior, tight end Jamel Howse, has been selected to represent the Bulldogs and the Newberry community in the 2025 Shrine Bowl all-star game. The four-star recruit, now committed to Appalachian State, says he’s honored by the chance and excited to compete when the North Carolina vs. South Carolina matchup kicks off December 20 in Spartanburg.
