With DUI crashes in Greenville County up nearly 14% last year, officials urge residents to plan sober rides, use rideshares, and make sure everyone gets home safely from gatherings in and around Simpsonville.

β€’ Man sentenced for murdering ex-girlfriend in Spartanburg before fleeing to NYC (foxcarolina.com) β€” A man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend in Spartanburg, with investigators tracing part of the crime trail to Simpsonville. Surveillance video showed the victim’s car abandoned at a Simpsonville car wash, helping authorities link the suspect to the killing before he was arrested in New York.

β€’ Dick Bennett (wgog.com) β€” Simpsonville residents are among those mourning William β€œDick” Bennett, whose daughter Allyson McDowell lives in town. Bennett, an 80-year-old retired Greenville County Sheriff’s Office sergeant, passed away Dec. 10 and will be honored at a Celebration of Life in Westminster on Dec. 13, with burial to follow later in Pelzer.
