1. After losing a local Spartanburg race, he was sworn into office before the winning candidate. Why? (postandcourier.com) — Spartanburg’s Commission of Public Works is under scrutiny after appointing runoff loser Dillon Swayngim to a vacant seat and swearing him in weeks before election winner Dr. Octavia Amaechi takes office in January. Critics say the move disrespects voters and raises conflict-of-interest concerns, while commission leaders insist the timing and appointment follow standard procedures and ensure continuity for Spartanburg Water.
   

2. Man wanted in connection with overdose at Spartanburg event, police say (foxcarolina.com) — Spartanburg police are asking for the public’s help locating a man they say is wanted in connection with a narcotics-related overdose reported during October’s National Night Out event. Anyone who spots the suspect is urged not to approach him and instead call Spartanburg Police or use the City Tip Line to share information.
   

3. Upstate measles outbreak putting babies at risk (wyff4.com) — A measles outbreak in Spartanburg County is putting local infants too young for vaccination at particular risk, worrying parents and pediatric providers. Health experts urge families to keep babies away from large crowds, ensure surrounding adults are vaccinated, and talk with doctors about early vaccination options for infants over six months, especially before holiday travel and gatherings.
   

4. See photos of Upstate football all-stars at Shrine Bowl practice (greenvilleonline.com) — Upstate high school football standouts are in town practicing for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, which kicks off Dec. 20 at Spartanburg High School. Local fans can see Spartanburg’s own kicker Will Love and other regional stars preparing on the Vikings’ home field in the lead-up to the all-star showcase.
   

5. Five 2026 key Upstate SC construction projects to watch: Looking ahead (greenvilleonline.com) — Spartanburg leaders have broken ground on a $100 million joint city-county government complex that will consolidate key services near South Church and West Broad streets by 2027. The city also plans to relocate and rebuild the downtown clock tower to clear the way for a new hotel project, while several other big Upstate construction efforts advance toward 2026 milestones.
