Fire Damages Summerville Home

Home fire on Hummingbird Lane displaces family.

A Summerville family of five has been displaced by a Sunday fire at its home on Hummingbird Lane, near Orangeburg Road, according to Lowcountry Red Cross. 

American Red Cross volunteers were called to the scene of a home fire and provided assistance to the family, which included three children. The Ashley River Fire Department responded to the fire, which caused major damage to the home.

The Red Cross provided the family with temporary housing, funds to replace food and clothing lost in the fire, comfort kits, containing personal hygiene items, and referrals to partner agencies to assist with the family’s long-term recovery.

The Red Cross has assisted 798 individuals affected by disasters, including home fires, in its seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties, since the beginning of the fiscal year on July 1, 2012.
