Fire Station Construction Halted

Town of Summerville reviewing contract with Linden Construction this week.

Work has stopped at the Town of Summerville's location for its newest fire station at the corner of Central Avenue and Butternut Road.

Town officials say the stop in construction will not affect the fire station's scheduled completion by end of this year or early next year, Mayor Bill Collins said.

Construction was halted last week after Town Council voted to authorize the mayor to enter into a mutual agreement to settle its contract with Linden Construction. The contract has not been terminated yet.

Collins was buttoned-up on the town's action, since litigation is a possibility. Linden Construction owner Brandon Linden did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

One subcontractor with the project said the town has not paid the contractor in several months.

The new station is within a mile of Pine Forest Country Club, Corey Woods, White Gables and Guilford Gates subdivisions. Fire Chief Richard Waring said in November, the new station will decrease response times from six to nine minutes to three to five minutes.
