Green Wave Self-Reports Ineligible Player to SCHSL

Summerville High may be the first to test the more lenient rules enacted by S.C. High School League for teams that self-report ineligible players.

ABC News 4 reported the 6-4 Green Wave baseball team has self reported an ineligible player that transferred from a private school, playing a pre-scrimmage baseball game, and suited up for four games with the Summerville team before the error was caught.

The unnamed player played as a pinch hitter in three games.

The team's next game is Monday against Bluffton. 

The high school league changed its rules recently to be more lenient toward self-reporting teams, in the wake of a contentious ruling in late 2012 that disqualified undefeated Goose Creek Gators football team prior to playoffs.
