Recent Rain Event Causes Sewer Problems

Sewer woes plague residents of Trotters Club Way from Sunday's rain; County Councilman renews pledge that something will be done.

As the rains came down this weekend, the residents of Trotters Club Way were dismayed by yet another sewer overflow on their street.

The issue has been brought to Dorchester County Council recently. Several residents fired off emails to media and County Council members Sunday. And at least one Council member renewed the pledge that something would be done.

"We are working to come up with both a short-term and long-term solution," Council Chair Bill Hearn wrote a distressed resident.

Jeanette Rehrig, Trotters Club Way resident, wrote this statement to Patch:

We know floods come periodically-- we live in the low country.  But over-flowing sewer manholes is another story.  I don't want to worry if I should have my kids play in my yard after one of these events.  Do you want your child or grandchild to lay in the grass or potentially get hand to mouth contact with ground that "might be" contaminated with sewer?  This is not a risk I want - or deserve.  We in Trotters Ridge just want Dorchester County to keep the sewer in the sewer line!  That should not be too much to ask!
