(thestate.com) — Lexington Health’s 607-bed hospital in West Columbia may go out-of-network for Cigna patients starting Jan. 1, 2026, potentially disrupting care for many locals. The hospital system and insurer are still negotiating, but residents are urged to review options, including switching providers, exploring new plans, or seeking continuity-of-care waivers for complex medical needs.

• Lexington County Coroner releases name of victim of fatal head-on crash (westmetronews.com) — Lexington County officials have identified 62-year-old Michael Leon Rather of Lexington as the victim of a fatal head-on collision Saturday on Muddy Springs Road. He was wearing a seatbelt and died after being taken to a hospital, while the other driver was also hospitalized. As West Columbia and nearby communities follow this case, Highway Patrol and the Coroner’s Office continue investigating what caused the crash.
