Tennessee Church Shooting: Suspect's Hearing Delayed

NASHVILLE, TN β Alleged church shooter Emanuel Samson will make his first appearance in court October 6.
Samson is charged with the murder of Melanie Crow, a 39-year-old mother of two gunned down in the parking lot of Burnette Chapel Church of Christ as services were wrapping up Monday. After killing her, Samson allegedly entered the sanctuary, injuring seven other people, including the church's minister, before he was subdued by 22-year-old lifelong church member and usher Caleb Engle.

Initially, Samson, 25, was to appear before Judge Rachel Bell in General Sessions Court Wednesday morning but that hearing was continued until next week. Metro Police say more charges are likely and a civil rights investigation by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office to determine if federal charges are appropriate is on-going.
