A new citywide housing study estimates Johnson City will need nearly 2,500 additional rental units over the next five years, underscoring growing demand and changing demographics downtown.

• Tennessee's ‘Savanna's Law' domestic violence registry will list repeat offenders (wate.com) — Johnson City residents will soon see a new state registry tracking repeat domestic violence offenders when Savanna’s Law takes effect on Jan. 1, 2026. Local advocates based in Johnson City say the registry is a helpful first step, but want stronger protections after a first conviction and more support for both survivors and offenders seeking help.
   

• Other Friday Arrests and Incidents (wgrv.com) — A woman identified as being from Johnson City faces multiple drug charges after a traffic stop where officers say suspected meth and pills were found. The same report details several other Friday incidents along East and West Andrew Johnson Highway, including another drug arrest, a DUI stop, a lawnmower theft, and a vehicle break-in.
